Mobile Internet and E-Mail

Mobile Internet and E-Mail

Mobile Internet is the ability to surf the Internet using one's mobile handset. Mobile e-mail is one of the primary uses of mobile Internet services, along with email, weather, and sports services (Telephia, August 2006).

An April 2007 report by market research firm iCrossing found that 30% of mobile owners have accessed the Web from their handsets. As network capacity and speeds increase, this number is expected to grow rapidly. Firstly, more users are expected to use the mobile Internet for entertainment purposes than in the past. Additionally, as mobile devices worldwide outnumber televisions and PCs combined, the mobile Internet market is poised to take off, especially in emerging markets where access to fixed-line services may not be readily available.
